Dreaming: Black and White or Technicolor

Who needs dream weavers and catchers,
when dreams are ours to be had.

We're teaching our young'ns to dream big and dream wide,
dream the infinitely bizarre...
Only to let them reach schoolin' to be stuffed in a box of abyss
where all their dreams are not only caught but stifled to bits.

Paint your own picture,
Find your own path,
Bleed outside the lines to find your endless bliss.
Only to be forced to color inside the lines through black and white lenses
to be herded on a track or a path
where there are cookie cutter circled tracks
trying to be filled by squares dying to get out.

Where did all the dreams go?
Did they get caught by the wind
like a kite with a mind of its own?

Moreover, where are our dreamers, our innovators,
our hope for the future?
Have we exterminated them all due to their differences?

We call ourselves America, Land of the Free.
But how free are we when we allow ourselves,
the individual, to be the only one that matters.
Are we trapping ourselves in a black and white world of ignorance
bound by the lines of the coloring book image of our dreams?
Scared to bleed over into the technicolor reality of a world
full of hurt, lost, and lonely people being eaten away
by our prejudices that consume the mind.

What happened to all the dreamers who followed their heart
into a technicolor world worth living?
